Tracy Rossi, 7th grade Science Teacher at
“Our first and primary focus was the tons of paper recycling that was not previously being recycled. Blue bins were distributed to all who didn't have them, signs (laminated for long time use), announcements were made to get the school behind our mission and we got busy. We meet every other week and teams of students go around the school collecting the recyclables from the blue bins. The students then deposit the material into the huge recycling dumpster out back. To date (past two months), we have recycled over 4,400 pounds of paper!! We are very proud of our work and intend to extend our program to include other recyclables.”
The Green Team celebrated America Recycles Day by signing pledges, committing to increase efforts to help the environment. Future projects include energy savings with energy audits for homes, improving the natural habitat around the school campus for the local wildlife (mostly birds and rabbit, a few deer), and adopting an endangered animal.
Rossi goes on to say, “The Green Team is very popular with over 40 students and 2 sponsors. We are having fun as a group while making a difference. “
Excellent work,
